Safeguarding
Everybody deserves to be safe.
Safeguarding is central to this Register. The British DanceSport Association will not tolerate the abuse of any child, young person or vulnerable adult.
Our approach
The Safe Dance Standard puts safeguarding at the centre. An accredited school needs a designated safeguarding lead, clear policies, the right staff checks, and a way to raise and handle concerns. We help schools do that well. We also play our part in preventing, detecting and reporting harm.
If someone is in immediate danger, call the police on 999. Do not wait for the Register.
If you are worried about someone in dance
If a child or vulnerable adult is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999.
To report a safeguarding concern in dance sport, use BDSA BeSafe, the BDSA's dedicated and anonymous reporting service, powered by the independent charity Crimestoppers. You can report by phone on 0800 917 9081, online at bdsabesafe.co.uk, or by email at besafe@bdsassociation.com.
For wider advice about a child's safety, the NSPCC helpline is available on 0808 800 5000, or by email at help@nspcc.org.uk. Childline is available for children and young people on 0800 1111.
Reporting a concern about a school
If your concern is about a school on the register, use BDSA BeSafe rather than reporting it through this website. Call 0800 917 9081, email besafe@bdsassociation.com, or visit bdsabesafe.co.uk.
