For dance schools

The National Dance Safe Register is where parents look for dance schools, and where the schools that meet the Safe Dance Standard can show it. This page explains how to claim your school and how to become accredited.

Claim your school

Your school may already be listed on the register as unverified, drawn from public information. You can claim your school to confirm and correct its details: your contact information, the styles you teach, class levels and ages. Claiming a listing is free.

The Safe Dance Standard

If you want to show parents that your school meets a recognised standard, you can apply to be assessed. Accreditation is the clearest way to stand apart from an unverified listing, and it is increasingly what parents look for.

The process:

  1. 1

You complete an application covering safeguarding, staff checks, first aid, insurance, qualifications and welfare, and upload your evidence. You can save your progress and return to it.

  2. 2

A trained BDSA assessor reviews your application against the published requirements.

  3. 3

You receive a decision. If you meet every core requirement, including enhanced DBS and barred-list checks for teaching staff, you are recorded as Accredited. Enhanced adds a teacher qualification pathway and the required insurance cover. If you do not meet the requirements, you receive a clear explanation of what was not met, so you can address it and reapply.

What it costs

There is an administration fee for assessment, and an annual fee to maintain your accreditation. The fees cover the cost of running the assessment and the register. They do not influence the outcome. No school can pay for a result, a higher level, or faster handling.

The annual fee keeps your listing and accreditation active. The assessment itself lasts three years, with expiry-tracked evidence checked as it falls due.

Keeping your accreditation

Accreditation lasts three years. Evidence with an expiry date is checked continuously, including enhanced DBS and barred-list checks, first aid and insurance. If expired evidence is not updated within 90 days, accreditation is paused until current evidence is provided.

Why get accredited

Parents are increasingly checking. Accreditation gives them a clear, independent reason to choose your school, and gives you a mark you can display on your own website and at your venue. It also means that, if a complaint is ever made, there is a recognised standard and a fair process behind your listing, rather than nothing at all.
