What the statuses mean

Every school on the National Dance Safe Register carries one status. Read it before you draw any conclusion. So parents and guardians can have confidence in the school.

ListedUnverified

The school is on the Register. The BDSA has not assessed it. We are not saying it is good or bad. We have not checked it. Most schools start here. If you are considering a listed school, use the questions on For Parents.

AccreditedSafe Dance Standard

The school has been assessed by a BDSA assessor and has met all the core requirements of the Safe Dance Standard. The assessment reflects the school's position at the time it was checked, and evidence is checked as certificates and policies fall due.

EnhancedHighest status

The highest status. Everything required for Accredited, plus a teacher qualification pathway and the required insurance cover.

PausedAccreditation not in force

The school's accreditation is paused because evidence needs updating — usually a certificate or policy that has expired. It does not mean a concern has been raised. Accreditation resumes as soon as the school updates its records with the BDSA.

SuspendedAccreditation withdrawn

The BDSA has suspended this school's accreditation. Please contact the BDSA before enrolling.

Notices

A school may carry a notice from the BDSA alongside its status. A notice appears on the school's page and does not change its accreditation — an accredited school with a notice is still accredited. Please contact the BDSA before enrolling.

A note on reading the register. Being listed is not the same as being assessed as safe. The status is the part that tells you whether we have checked a school. Always read it before drawing any conclusion from a listing.
