Understanding the register

What the statuses mean

Every school on the register carries one status. Here is what each one means, in plain terms.

ListedUnverified

The school is listed, but the BDSA has not assessed it. We are not saying anything about its standards, good or bad. We simply have not checked it. Most schools on the register are unverified.

Advice for parents →
AccreditedSafe Dance Standard

Assessed by a BDSA assessor and meets all core requirements of the Safe Dance Standard. The assessment reflects the school's position at the time it was checked, and evidence is checked as certificates and policies fall due.

Enhanced

Everything required for Accredited, plus a teacher qualification pathway and the required insurance cover. This is the highest status on the Register.

A school may also carry a marker alongside its status.

Paused —
the school's accreditation is not in force because evidence needs updating, usually an expired certificate or policy. It does not mean a concern has been raised, and accreditation resumes once the school updates its records.
Suspended —
the BDSA has suspended the school's accreditation. Please contact the BDSA before enrolling.
Notice —
the BDSA has published a notice about the school. A notice does not change the school's status; an accredited school with a notice is still accredited. Please contact the BDSA before enrolling.
